The 19th May, 2023 is the day of Savitri Vrat “सावित्री व्रत”
Before we delve into the celestial aesthetic sense of this unparallel ritual, let us have a pregnant flashback for a while on the uniqueness of the repertory of India’s traditions that distinguishes her from others with all candour.
One has to identify oneself with the cultural ethos wherever one tours in India.
All the year round one ceremony or the other is solemnised somewhere in the country which has it own distinct sobrity.
How aweful is that all of them are purely scientific and exemplify the vivacity suff used with the sublime intellect.
The सावित्री व्रत stands on the topmost of their catalogue which is logical because of its implicit sanctity.
This is the solemn ceremony of the Indian women whose austerity seldom has any match. There is no dearth of such instances as of Anusuya , Sita, Lopamudra and many others who have illuminated the conscience of the humanity to its pinnacle.
The anecdote of savitri, no doubt resonates with them.
Let alone the province of odisha, even the women community all over the country, observe this religious rite in a way or the other . They worship under a banyan tree with all the prescribed formalities. They keep fast all day along and take simple saltless food prepared in the consecrated fire. A large number of women devotees will assemble at Jagnnath Temple, Hauz Khas New Delhi on May 19 , 2023 and invoke Bhagwan with a serene emotion that transcends absurd prejudice and at the same time, armours them with the perfection. This sentiment does not tantalises them to supplicate for something for themselves on the contrary, for propitious fortune and family as well . Their fidelity is sacrosanct for which they despise everything. Such a resolute penance of theirs persists perpetually. They are paragon for their compassion and complaisance.
Savitri symbolises the flawless sacrifice of the Indian woman which is the last resort of our being.
Her impeccable conduct subdued even यमराज , the god of death so that he had to bless her with the three promises. One , he had to resusciate her husband who had passed away untimely. Two , parents of satyavan retrieved their lost vision . Three , They restored their usurped empire too.
Thus , her sober chastity prevailed at last. Hence it is a humble tribute to her exemplary character to be imbibed once and for all.
