He is true to his word as the legend explains, previously, he had assured the king, Indradyumna that he would sojourn for an ephemeral period of seven days at the Gundicha temple every year. As a matter of fact, Gundicha happens to be the devout consort of Indradyumna, the king of Avanti who had got the temple of Jagnnath Puri installed.
Concurring with his own promises, Bhagwan Jagannath will depart for his destination, the Gundicha temple where he along with all three forms Balbhadra, Subhadra and Sudarshan Chakra will remain enthroned.
