The fifty-six food items which are offered to Lord Jagannath in the holy temple of Puri is termed as Mahaprasad. Like Puri, here in the Jagannath Mandir, Hauz Khas, Mahaprasad is being prepared by the Pandas. The Bhog/Naivedya offered to Lord and later to Maa Bimala in the Grand Temple (Sri Mandir) and remnants of that Nivedana (after acceptance by Maa Bimala) is known as ‘Mahaprasad’ or abhada. Mahaprasad is also widely named as the famous Chappan Bhog.
From the day of Pran Pratishtha the Hauz Khas temple administration is continuously striving towards meticulous preparation of different variety Bhog, Anna Prasad and takes care that those are offered to Lord on stipulated time like Puri Shri Jagannath Temple. Numerous devotees who visit the temple during lunch and dinner time relish this delicious Mahaprasad and feel blessed.
Under the leadership of the then Minister Braja Mohan, Chhapan bhog was first prepared by Sree Neelachala Seva Sangha in the Jagannath Mandir. After that, on 28th August 2016, Times of India group and Shri Neelachala Seva Sangha organised the Chappan bhog event. Again after six years on 7th of April, 2022, Chhapan bhog was prepared and offered to deities by Sree Neelachala Seva Sangha under the supervision of Rama Krushna Das Mohapatra (Tiki Bhai).
The Chhapan bhog means fifty-six food items that are offered to Lord Jagannath. These items include:
(A) Rice items
1. Sadha Anna – Simple Rice cooked in water
2. Kanika – Rice, Ghee, and Sugar
3. Dahi Pakhala – Curd Rice and water
4. Thali Khichadi – Lentil, Rice with Sugar and Ghee
5. Ada Pakhala – Rice, Ginger, and water
6. Ghee Anna – Rice mixed with Ghee
7. Khichadi – Rice mixed with Lentil
8. Mitha Pakhala – Rice, Sugar and water
9. Odia Pakhala – Rice, Ghee, Lemon and Salt
(B) Sweets
10. Khaja Made of wheat
11. Gaja – made of wheat, sugar, and Ghee
12. Ladu – Made of sugar, wheat, and Ghee
13. Jeera Ladu
14. Magaja Ladu
15. Mathapuli – Made of Ghee, beans ground into a thick paste and Ginger
16. Khuruma – Made of Sugar, wheat, and Salt
17. Jagannath Ballav – Wheat, Ghee, and Sugar

35. Papudi – Prepared from only the cream of milk
36. Khua – Prepared out of Pure Milk slowly boiled over many hours to a soft custard-like
consistency
37. Rasabali – made of Milk, Sugar, and Wheat
38. Tadia – Made of fresh cheese, sugar, and Ghee 39. Chhena Khai – Made of fresh Cheese,
milk, and sugar
40. Bapudi Khaja – the cream of milk, sugar, and ghee
41. Khua Manda – Made of milk, wheat, and Ghee
42. Sarapulli – This is the most famous milk dish prepared. It is mainly made of pure milk
boiled hours and spread out on a large pizza-shaped pan.

In the past whenever Chhapan Bhog Prasad was prepared for the Supreme Lord at Shri Jagannath Temple Hauz Khas, New Delhi, Sevayats from Puri graced to prepare the same so that authenticity of all the traditional items could be retained.
