Mahaprabhu, the Lord Jagannath is the Supreme Lord of Universe. The name Jagannath is derived from two words, i.e. ‘Jagat’ means Universe and ‘Nath’ means Lord. He is also known as Mahaprabhu or Purushottam that establishes His supremacy over all. Lord Jagannath is omnipresent, omnipotent and omniscient. Lord Jagannath is not only being worshiped by the people from Odisha but also by the entire world as the supreme Almighty.
In Hinduism or in Sanatan Dharma, He is the living God. Since eternity, His tattva has been beautifully described in Vedas and Puranas. With the passage of time, many scholars, saints and devotees have glorified Him in their writings in different languages. Lord Jagannath is being worshipped along with brother, Lord Balabhadra and sister, Goddess Subhadra and Sudarshan at Shri Kshetra – Puri, Odisha. They are also known as “Chaturdhaa Murty”.
For believers of Sanatan Dharma, Puri is one of the four sacred places or Dhamas which is the main abode of Lord Jagannath. Apart from Puri, the Jagannath temple has been built in many places both in the country and abroad. In Delhi, the capital of India, the first Lord Jagannath temple was built at Hauz Khas, in South Delhi.
